Product Description

What's the matter?

Most common materialsl fall into one of three states of matter: solid, liquid or gas. Each of these states have their own properties.  Solids retain their volume and shape, liquids retain their volume, but hold the shape of their container.  Gases do not hold their volume or their shape. Some fluids called Non-Newtonian fluids exhibit properties of both liquids and solids.  Non-Newtonian fluids act as solids when the fluid is under strain (such as applying quick force or stirring it quickly).  When the strain is gone, the substance reverts to liquid properties.

In the Goobleck activity, Students will:

  • Learn about the states of matter
  • Discuss the properties of each state
  • Experience a Non-Newtonian Fluid
  • Predict the behavior of the Non-Newtonian Fluids under strain
  • Discover that different strengths and different pulls can cause an object to move in certain patterns

The teacher makes Goobleck, a Non-Newtonian Fluid,  for the class and distributes the Goobleck into each student's container.  Student worksheets guide the student through observing the Goobleck properties.  The teacher's guide provides procedures, background and discussion information to help the teacher lead the activity.

Each Classroom Kit comes with a Teacher's Guide, Student Worksheets and a 25 sets of lab materials for each activity. The Teacher's guides are written in such a way that any instructor, if the lesson plans are followed, is able to teach every lesson on a professional level. 25 copies of the student lesson plans are conveniently provided for each student activity. The kits are designed so that an educator opens the box and can begin teaching.

The Classroom Kits are packaged so that each student receives their own materials to perform the activity's investigation. The lab materials are separated, for each student, to minimize preparation time in the classroom. All kits include the necessary materials to perform the activity. No outside materials (with the exception of water in some activities) are required. The kits even include common classroom materials if the activity requires them such as crayons, pencils, or tape.

The Homeschool Kits contain a teacher manual, student activity worksheets, and lab activities packaged for one student.
